Balogun stars as Rangers beat114-year-old Scottish record with latest clean sheet

Lean Balogun was involved as Glasgow Rangers thrashed Dundee United 4 – 0 at Ibrox on Saturday.

The Nigeria international was the commander in chief as Rangers recorded another clean sheet to make it seven in roll.

Balogun and his teammates wrote themselves into the history books with a seventh consecutive clean sheet and they beat a record that had stood for 114 years in the history of Scottish football.

The Gers surpassed the six consecutive clean sheet record set by Celtic in 1906 to maintain their advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Leon Balogun who arrived on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic looked a vital acquisition from the very first game against Aberdeen.

Aberdeen, St Mirren, St Johnstone, Livingston, Kilmarnock, Hamilton Academical, and Dundee United have all failed to find the back of the net against Rangers so far this season.

The Light Blues became the first Scottish side to open a season with seven straight shut-outs as they maintained their three-point lead at the top of the table.

Ryan Kent, James Tavernier, Kemar Roofe, and Scott Arfield scored to give Steven Gerrard’s men all the points.

Meanwhile, the Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack, Brandon Barker, and Alfredo Morelos were replaced after they suffered injury in the encounter.

They could join Joe Aribo on the sideline as the Gers continued to battle against injuries.
