Banyana Banyana continues dominance over Super Falcons

The Banyana Banyana of South Africa has delivered a statement at the WAFCON2022 with a 2-1 win over defending champions, Nigeria Super Falcons.

The Desiree Elis girls dominated the encounter from beginning to the end as the Falcons struggled to stamp their authority.

The first half ended without a goal, but an improved performance in the second half saw the challengers blow the Falcons away.

Sporting Braga’s attacker Jermaine Seoposenwe gave South Africa the lead a minute after the hour mark.

Hildah Tholakele Magaia, then made it second three minutes, following a fantastic build-up from the team.

Rasheedat Ajibade reduced the deficit for the Falcons in the added time, but South Africa held on for an impressive win.

For only the third time since 1995 Banyana Banyana defeat the Super Falcons in the CAF Women’s African Cup of Nations.

They recorded their first win over Nigeria on 7 November 2012 ( South Africa 1-0 Nigeria), then on 18th November 2018 (South Africa 1-0 Nigeria) and 4th July 2022 (Nigeria 1-2 South Africa).

They also defeated the Falcons 4-2 in Aisha Buhari’s invitational tournament last year.
