Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis revealed there was some small party at the team’s hotel to celebrate Monday’s victory over Nigeria.
South Africa triumphed 2-1 over Nigeria in the WAFCON group C opener at the Stade Prince Moulay Al Hassan.
It was Banyana’s third success over the Nine-time Champions in the history of the competition and Ellis revealed they celebrated briefly in their hotel.
“We celebrated a bit in the evening because it was a huge result and we’d worked hard for it — not that other teams hadn’t, but we had prepared very well for that,” the Banyana Banyana Coach disclosed.
“The next day we started to prepare for Burundi because it’s a very small turnaround time between games and you can’t think about what has been, and what worked and didn’t work.
“It’s looking to the next game because it’s a huge game,” She said.
South Africa will clash with Burundi this evening and a victory will seal their passage to the knockout phase.
The top two teams and the two best runners-up in the three groups will progress to the quarter-final.
