Broos Eyes Revenge Against Nigeria in World Cup Qualifier

South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos has voiced his optimism about his team’s prospects of clinching a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence in their ability to overcome Nigeria.

The anticipation stems from the history between the two teams, particularly following Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the 2023 AFCON semi-finals, decided by penalties in Cote d’Ivoire.

Despite this setback, Broos remains undeterred, believing his squad has what it takes to emerge victorious in the upcoming qualifiers.

Reflecting on the team’s potential, Broos remarked, “Yes, and maybe not sure as yet, but I believe we have a very big chance to be at the World Cup in 2026, we can make it.”

Currently, Nigeria occupies the third position in Group C standings, having drawn their opening two matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

This places them one point behind South Africa, who sit in second position with three points, secured through a win against Benin Republic and a loss to Rwanda.

At the top of the group sits Rwanda, leading with four points, setting the stage for an intense competition among the teams vying for qualification to the prestigious 2026 FIFA World Cup.
