Last seasons UEFA champions league winners, Real Madrid will be looking forward to breaking the hoodoo of the current champions of the competition not able to retain the title the following season.
The Los Blancos proved doubters wrong again by controversially defeating one of the favorites for the competition, Bayern Munich in the Quarter-finals and have now booked a place with Atletico Madrid in the Semi -finals.
Real Madrid are also on the right track in their quest to win the La liga this , season with three points ahead of second placed, Barcelona and also have a game in hand, will be trying to make sure they complete the double and assert themselves a true world champions.
But to win the Champions League and break this curse, they have to get past neighbors, Atletico Madrid who they have humbled twice in the final of the competition.
The only teams that have come close to winning the competition back to back were Ajax in 1996, Juventus in 1998 and Manchester United in 2009 having won it the previous year.
Also, if Real Madrid eventually make it through to the final, it is not sure they will retain the cup as they would either face Monaco or Juventus who have been on superb form this season domestically and on the international stage.
Monaco who are the highest scoring team in the top five leagues of Europe says a lot of what to expect from them. The likes of teenage sensation, Kylian Mbappe, Bernado Silva, Thomas Lemar have raised eyebrows over the few months for their scintillating form and goal scoring threat.
Juventus on the other hand have conceded only two goals since the start of the competition. The defensive partnership of Leonardo Bonnuci and Giorgino Chiellini have proved that attack wins you matches but defence wins you titles.
Real Madrid have a ton of work to do if they are to retain the Champions League and rewrite history.
