Eagles dream is to win, not just qualify for AFCON 2019, Says Etebo

Super Eagles and Stoke City midfielder, Ogehenekaro Etebo, Says  ‘determination, and dedication’  was key to the team victory over Libya in 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles defeated the Knight Mediterranean of Libya 3-2 in Sfax on Tuesday, having won the previously fixture 4-0 in Uyo on Saturday.

The six points gained in the two games moved the Gernot Rohr tutored side to the top of Group E table with 9 points from four matches.

However, the Rio 2014 Olympic revelation said the matches weren’t easy but owed the team victory to determination and team spirit.

“I thank God for the back to back victory, the boys showed a lot of team spirit and determination over the two matches, and we are so happy to have won both games”. he told Diego sports.

The former Warri midfielder,  said the team aren’t just dreaming of qualifying for the Competition proper, but winning the tournament is a priority as well.

“This group of players have never been to the AFCON, we watched the likes of Mikel and Onazi win it in 2013 and we want to taste this victory.

After the World Cup, we made up our mind that we want to win the AFCON and put smiles on the face of Nigerians. God willing we will get that”.

Next for Super Eagles is a trip to South Africa in November where victory will qualify the team for the tournament and render the last home to Seychelles a dead rubber tie.

Etebo said the team wants to avenge their home loss and pay the Bafana Bafana back in their own coin.

“Yes, we are looking forward to the game against South Africa. They took us by surprise in the 1st leg at home. We were missing some key players and we are really looking forward to rectifying the records. It’s not going to be easy but we will give our best”.
