Eguaveon ready to help Troost-Ekong rediscover form

Austin Eguavoen is backing William Troost-Ekong to rediscover his form before the African Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old defender has been shadow of himself in the past few few months — putting in below par performances for Club and Country.

Recalled Ekong and his partner Leon Balogun were criticised for allowing Karl Namnganda to score in the final minute as the Central African Republic snatched a stunning 1-0 Group C triumph in Lagos during the World Cup qualifiers.

However, Troost-Ekong remain one of the key players in the Nigerian squad and must rediscover his form quickly if Nigeria is to excel in Cameroon and also qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

“Our psychologist has a big role to play as does the Coaches and the entire team to help lift the confidence of Troost-Ekong.”

“He’s also a very strong player and we trust we can help him come through this rough patch”, Austin Eguaveon said to brila.net in an exclusive interview.

Ekong is expected to be in action for Watford later today.
