Manchester United central defender Phil Jones is expected to be out next Saturday’s pre-World Cup friendly against Nigeria, according to reports from the three Lions’ camp.
Jones,26, may not be included in England’s matchday squad to face Nigeria at Wembley on Saturday as his partner is due to give birth.
According to Sky Sports News, there are suggestions that the 26-year-old will be given the day off to join his partner as the couple expects their baby.
Jones’s likely absence leaves England light of options, with only three other recognised centre-backs for manager Gareth Southgate to choose from – Man City’s John Stones, Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Chelsea Captain Gary Cahill.
England hosts the Super Eagles of Nigeria at Wembley on Saturday before playing Costa Rica at Elland Road on Thursday, June 7.
