FIFA Says NFF, Other FAs Agree to Rainbow Armband During Women’s World Cup

According to World Football Governing body, FIFA, Onome Ebi and other Captains will be allowed to wear armbands with messages about inclusion, gender equality and peace at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino stated this in a statement on Friday.

Recall the Football Body was criticized for banning teams from wearing the rainbow armbands at the Men’s tournament last year in Qatar.

Infantino said the body has reviewed the decision and teams are now free to wear armband with rainbow colors.

“After some very open talks with stakeholders, including member associations and players, we have decided to highlight a series of social causes – from inclusion to gender equality, from peace to ending hunger, from education to tackling domestic violence – during all 64 matches at the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” the statement read.

“Football unites the world and our global events, such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup, have a unique power to bring people together and provide joy, excitement and passion.”

The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand, and is scheduled to take place from July 20 July to August 20.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons is drawn in Group B with co-host Australia, Canada and Republic of Ireland.
