Finidi can lead Super Eagles – Omeruo

Super Eagles CB Kenneth Omeruo has echoed the team’s strong belief in interim coach Finidi George.

Omeruo made this statement after Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Mali in an international friendly on Tuesday.

It was the Super Eagles first loss in an official game to the West African neighbors since 1975.

Omeruo stated that the team performed well against Eric Chelle’s side but was unfortunate in their loss to the Eagles.

“I think we played a better second half, it wasn’t a bad game, we just didn’t take our chances and they scored two goals. Overall, I think we played a good game,” the Super Eagles captain told NFF TV.

“I think it was a good outing for us, fantastic spirit. The players that were here gave their best. We just couldn’t score in the game.”

The Super Eagles will now shift their focus to the June 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
