Super Eagles interim head coach, Finidi George has expressed satisfaction with the debut performance of Benjamin Tanimu.

Benjamin Tanimu made a surprising start as he partnered Semi Ajayi in Central defence against Ghana.

Finidi George, in a chat with Brila Media emphasized that the new invitee had a good game all round – as a replacement for the injured Kenneth Omeruo.

“I was quite impressed. You know, the young lad, being his first time wearing the Super Eagles jersey. I think it’s a lot.

“It’s a lot to ask of a young lad but I think he did so well; composure, discipline wise, I think he had a pretty good game so we cannot fault him for anything.

“I think the best of him is yet to come. Definitely as he comes in, every now and then he will build that confidence to play on that top level.”

When quizzed if the Tanzania-based CB would also start tonight’s game against Mali, and he had this to say:

“We’ll see how that plays out. I think Omeruo is also coming back; he had a knock. He couldn’t play that first game against Ghana.

“We’ll see, if he’s fully fit definitely Omeruo will start. If he’s not fully fit, I think Tanimu will still keep his place for this match,” he told Brila Media.

Nigeria will lock horns with Mali later tonight in Marrakech, as the team wraps up their final game of this international window.
