The Flying Eagles of Nigeria picked one of the four best losersticket to the quarter final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup following a 1-1 draw with Ukraine on Thursday.
The draw was enough for Ukraine to win their group and progress unbeaten. Opponents Nigeria finished third on four points, while USA finished above their African rivals in second after beating Qatar 1-0.
Danylo Sikan headed home from close range in the 30th minute to give Ukraine a 1-0 lead.
Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin saved Muhamed Tijani’s penalty seconds before half-time, but could not repeat the feat when Tijani earned another spot-kick in the 47th minute. After VAR confirmed that Denys Popov handled
Tijani’s shot on goal, the Nigerian forward fired past Lunin to ensure the two sides shared the spoils.
