Former Super Eagles defender, Ajibade Babalade passes on at 48

Nigeria Football Federation has announced the passing of former Super Eagles defender Ajibade Babalade on Friday.

 

The Nigerian football governing said the former shooting stars of Ibadan rock-solid defender pass on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest.

 

“We are sad to announce the shock demise of former @NGSuperEagles defender Ajibade Babalade. Babalade died of cardiac arrest today in Ibadan. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace. Our prayers are with his family.” The NFF said on Friday.

 

Babalade passed on after at the age of 48.

 

His death came as he was reportedly being taken to the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

 

He was survived by a wife and three children who are reportedly based in the United States.

 

Babalade went on to made 13 appearances for Super Eagles after his debut in  1990.

 

The former Heartland of Owerri defender was a member of the Eagles squad that finished third at the 1992 AFCON in Senegal.

 

He also captained Shooting Stars and played for stationery Stores, and Sturm Graz of Switzerland, before hanging his boot in 1988.
