Sikiru Alimi has disclosed that seeking a new challenge was the reason behind his departure from Sunshine Stars and believes his new team will represent the country well in the CAF Champions League this season.
Alimi joined the 2018 Nigeria professional football league champions in the current transfer window after the expiration of his two-year contract with the Owena Waves, a club he described as his home.
The former Warri Wolves forward told the media that it was not easy for him to cut ties with Sunshine but he believes it was the right time to seek a new challenge.
“It was an emotional moment for me when I decided not to renew my contract with Sunshine Stars because Akure was my home for the past two seasons but I felt it was time for me to face another challenge and it was what prompted my decision to leave,”.
Alimi who won VAT wonder goal of week twice last season, added that the he finds it difficult to turn down the opportunity of playing in the continent again with Lobi Stars.
“The allure of returning to the continent again after my stint with Warri Wolves was also very appealing. Lobi Stars are the Nigerian champions and this they have confirmed with the Super Cup triumph.
I am happy to join them and to help them go far in the Caf Champions League. I am focused and ready for the challenge at hand.
The forward added that the Pride of Benue won’t disappoint Nigerians in the competition, As he believed they are well prepared for the challenge.
“Lobi Stars have prepared seriously for this competition because they started the pre-season very early and they have played lots of friendly games.
The players too have had enough periods to train together and bond. We are going to the continent to represent Nigeria very well and we are confident of achieving that.” he concluded.
