Striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his excitement after receiving his first-ever call-up to the Nigerian national team, describing it as a major milestone in his career.
Arokodare’s invitation comes on the back of his impressive performances for Genk over the past two seasons.
The 24-year-old striker has been in fine form this campaign, scoring 19 goals and providing six assist. in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking in an interview with the NFF media team, Arokodare reflected on the moment he found out he had made the provisional squad.

“First I was surprised, I felt very honored to be mentioned amongst the 39 players, it was quite surprising.
“I knew it was coming because I’ve been doing pretty well and I was hoping that it would come and it did come.
“I felt like a winner already that even if I didn’t make the final 23, I had done something. I just feel really blessed and grateful. It means a lot, it’s one of the best things that can happen to a footballer, getting the opportunity to represent your country to play.
“As a kid, you always watch the national legends play and you always wanted to play for your national team. Finally being able to play for my own country, it means a lot to me.”
Nigeria will face Rwanda in Kigali on Friday March 21st before hosting Zimbabwe in Uyo four days later as they continue their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Under the leadership of head coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles are looking to bounce back in their qualifying campaign.
While Arokodare is in contention for his international debut, he faces stiff competition for a starting spot, with Victor Osimhen still the first-choice striker.
