Nigerian Premier division Champions, Rivers United insists Ishaq Rafiu remain their player and will drag Slovenian side, NK Maribor to FIFA.
Maribor on Tuesday announced the signing of the 21-year-old winger via their official website.
It was reported that Ishaq Rafiu had seen out his deal with Rivers United, before joining Maribor as a free agent.
However in another development, Rivers United claimed the one time Super Eagles Invitee remains their player as his contract is still running.
Rivers United further explained that the player has absconded, and the case has been reported to the World Football Governing Body, FIFA.
“The attention of the Management of Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt has been drawn to a fictitious report being circulated in a section of the social media suggesting that our player Ishaq Rafiu Kayode has left the club.
“As a club, we are not aware of any such purported transfer as the player only absconded from the club and this position has been made known to FIFA thus any acquisition of the player without our consent is null and void,” An excerpt from the publication made by the Club read.
