NFF Election: Akwuegbu calls for unity among ex internationals

Benedict Akwuegbu has called for unity among ex-internationals ahead of the coming Nigeria Football Federation election in Benin City.

Current president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, has made it clear he won’t be running for the office again this year after spending 8 years as president of the Football body.

Five ex-internationals, alongside Akwuegbu, however, have shown interest in the NFF top seat ahead of the election slated for Benin City next month.

Sources however revealed the players union is worried over the multiple candidacies and it is believed that it might hamper the chances of the union at the polls.

In a chat with brila.net, Akwuegbu confirmed that the players union is not united as it should be, and stated there is a need to put the house in order before the poll.

“The election is coming, and we are all preparing in our own ways, but there is a need for us (the ex-internationals) to be united going into the polls because nothing can be achieved without togetherness.”

“We have the experience and know-how. We can no longer play seat on the fence and watch our football go down the drain.” He said.

“Asked if he would be interested in dialogue a with the body to present a candidate to contest the presidency of Nigeria Football Federation, the former striker said.

Of course, I’m ready to meet with anyone and discuss, the most important thing is Nigerian football and we need everyone to contribute their quota.”

“I have absolutely no problem with that.” He concluded.
