NFF, Peseiro at Loggerheads over New Contract

NFF, Peseiro at Loggerheads over New Contract

The three-day ultimatum reportedly handed to Jose Peseiro by the Nigeria Football Federation to respond to a new contract following the expiration of his tenure as Super Eagles Coach has elapsed.

BRL sources have disclosed that Peseiro’s lawyers did not respond to the ultimatum, but there is a likelihood that the Portuguese could renegotiate the terms offered.

Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe on September 10 has thrown open suggestions that the absence of a substantive coach will force the NFF to look inwards and hire a Nigerian on interim basis.

Last week, Chairman NFF technical committee, Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa was quoted by the media, saying the Federation is happy to replace the former Venezuela manager, if he refused to agree the new terms, which includes a pay cut and the inclusion of home based players in the squad for the Cup of Nations next year.

However, the 63 year-old is reportedly unhappy with the clauses as he doesn’t believe the home based players are good enough to compete.

Jose Peseiro replaced the Austin Eguavoen-led consortium of local coaches following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the last FIFA
World Cup in Qatar.
