Nnadozie the hero as Super Falcons hold Canada in second Group B game

Super Falcons of Nigeria earlier on Friday started their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign with a hard earned draw against Canada.

The Randy Waldrum’s team played out a goalless draw with one of the pre tournament favorites Canada in second Group B game at the Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was the hero as she saved a second half penalty kick that would have won the Olympic Champions, Canada the game.

Nnadozie dived to her left, denying Christine Sinclair from the spot after Francisca Ordega was penalized for a reckless challenge in the box.

The Falcons however finished the game with ten players as debutant Deborah Abiodun was sent off in the added time.

The teams were left with a point each, trailing Group B leaders Australia by two following the co-hosts’ 1-0 win over Ireland on Thursday.

The Super Falcons will now face hosts Australia in their second Group B game.
