The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to part ways with Randy Waldrum as the head coach of the country’s senior women’s national team, despite the team’s performance in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The decision was made during an executive meeting held on September 10, 2023.
Waldrum previously stated that his contract with the NFF would end in October and he would not be in charge for the team’s upcoming matches, the recent executive committee meeting has confirmed his departure.
The NFF commended the Super Falcons for their impressive performance in the World Cup, where they reached the Round of 16 without losing a single match in regulation time.
However, the board emphasized the need for continuous improvement and support for women’s football in Nigeria.
The NFF has resolved to ensure meritocracy in the selection of new coaching staff for the various women’s national teams, including the Super Falcons.
Randy Waldrum survived a potential dismissal before the World Cup but was allowed to complete his assignment before a final decision was made on his future.
During his tenure, Nigeria had a disappointing performance in the 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations, finishing fourth and suffering three losses in six games for the first time in the team’s history.
