Former Nigerian International, Mutiu Adepoju believes Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has what it takes to win next Africa’s player of the Year.

The Nigerian forward is the leading scorer in the Italian Calcio this season with 17 goals in 18 matches.

He’s on the verge of leading Napoli to her first league title since 1990, helping the Partenopei establish fifteen points lead on top of the log.

Speaking on Brila FM, Adepoju, who played at three FIFA World Cup, says Osimhen has earned the right to be considered favorite for the award.

“Nobody is at the level he is now, and I believe he still has time ahead to do more,” Adepoju told Brila FM.

“If now was the moment to pick the African best player, he will win it easily.”

Kanu Nwankwo is the last Nigerian to win the prestigious award in 1999. John Mikel Obi came close to ending the drought in 2013, but was pipped by Yaya Toure.
