Osimhen tamed by Pique as Barcelona sent Napoli parking from Europe

Victor Osimhen failed to make an impression as Napoli lost to Barcelona in the Europa League game on Thursday.

Prior to the game, Osimhen was tagged as one of the players to watch, but never live up to expectations in both legs.

He fired blank as the Napoli fell 4-2 at the Diego Maradona’s Stadium in the Thursday’s encounter.

Although he managed to win a penalty scored by Lorenzo Insigne, the Nigerian international was tamed by aging Gerrard Pique, before he was taken off in the 75th minute.

Jordi Alba put Barcelona ahead in the 8th minutes, before Frenkie De Jong extended their lead to 2-0 in the 13th minute.

However, Lorenzo Insigne pulled one back from penalty spot for the hosts in 23rd minute after Ter Stegen brought down Victor Osimhen in the box.

Napoli’s hope of come back was shattered when Gerard Pique and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored two more goals to put the tie beyond the reach of the Italians.

Matteo Politano later reduced the deficit in the 87th minute as Barcelona advanced to the next round 5-3 on aggregate.
