Paris 2024: Kaylin Swart Talks Up Banyana Banyana’s Chances

South Africa’s goalkeeper, Kaylin Swart, is gearing up for another challenging encounter against Nigeria as the sides prepare to face off in the decisive second leg of their Olympic Games qualifier.

Despite Banyana Banyana’s 1-0 defeat in the first leg, Swart’s standout performance between the post provided hope for her team.

She pulled off several remarkable saves, particularly during the first half, to keep her side in contention.

Now, as South Africa aims to overturn the first-leg deficit in the upcoming match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, Swart emphasized the need for an improved team performance.

Speaking to CAF Online, Swart expressed confidence in the coaching staff’s preparations and highlighted the importance of self-assessment among the players.

“I think the coaches know exactly what’s needed and us as players, we also will look at ourselves and hopefully we’ll come back with a better individual performance,” she said.

Reflecting on the first leg, Swart pinpointed moments of promise that Banyana Banyana can build upon.

“I think if we can start (the second leg) the way we finished the second half (in Abuja), I think there’s so much more to give,” she added.

Maintaining faith in her teammates’ abilities, Swart remains optimistic about South Africa’s chances of securing a spot in Paris 2024.

She called upon the fans to rally behind the team, believing that their support could be the catalyst for a turnaround.

“I still believe in my girls, I still think that we can turn it around at home,” Swart affirmed, hoping that they can find the goals needed to advance.
