Peseiro maintains Super Eagles’ target remains AFCON title

Super Eagles Head coach Jose Peseiro insists his desire and target for the future is to win the African Cup of Nations for Nigeria.

Peseiro’s team lost 2-1 to Algeria in Tuesday’s international friendly played at the Miloud Hadefi Olympics Complex.

Terem Moffi drew the first blood and put the Eagles ahead, but the Desert Foxes replied with two goals to win the tie.

Firstly Riyad Mahrez scored from the penalty spot following Frank Onyeka’s bad tackle inside the box.

OGC Nice Youcef Atal then beat Francis Uzoho from 25 yards to hand the North Africans victory.

Despite the defeat, Peseiro said he had confidence in the team’s ability to deliver the target, but they must work more.

“I am more confident than before, we lost but I have more confident in this team,” Peseiro quipped.

The players must do well in their clubs, my staff see many matches every week.

“You need quality, commitment and adapt well too. Sacrifice and have good commitment.

“I’m sad with the result but we did well. We want to win the next AFCON. First, we must qualify and play quality friendly matches and have more camping.

“We want to have a solid team. We have a good team and we want to improve. Everybody must work together. Myself, my staff and the NFF . We can play at the highest level,” He concluded.
