In the aftermath of Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying series, former Super Eagles striker Peter Ijeh has voiced concerns about the coaching strategy employed by Jose Peseiro.
Speaking exclusively to Brila.net, Ijeh emphasized that Peseiro’s failure to extract the best performance from the players may jeopardize Nigeria’s prospects of qualifying for the prestigious tournament.
The ex-Swedish topflight league goal king pointed out a lack of creativity in Peseiro’s team, stating apprehension that without corrective measures, the squad may continue to face challenges on the road to the World Cup.
“It is difficult to accept, I mean, how do you explain that sort of performances against Lesotho and Zimbabwe?
“The coach has to take responsibility for these poor results. There is nothing to add. I think he’s not getting the best out of team. The squad is not even balance to start with. “
“The midfielders are now creative enough and that’s why the strikers are now scoring goals. Football is a game of chances, and if don’t create, you don’t score.”
“Osimhen would have added something against Zimbabwe, but he would have struggled to score as well, because there were no clear cut chances”
“And this lead the question, who has he improved in the team?, how many players has he discovered? Absolutely, none”. He told Brila.net.
