Player Scout: Defender who turned his back on Nigeria for Russia

The name Adesoye Oyewole sounds very Nigerian and indeed is Nigerian, but this 6 ft 2 in Defender has no links to the West African country besides his name.

‘Ade’ as he is called for short, was born in Russia, where he has played football all of his life.

His middle name “Oyetundzhiyevich”, speaks of how much Russian he is; with no regrets.

Currently, he plays for Russia PL side, FC Orenburg and has made 19 appearances already this season, scoring three goals.

His latest outing coming in the 3-2 road win over 13-time Russian champions, CSKA Moscow at the VEB Arena on Saturday.

Ade, 36, netted in the 18 minute to bring his side level in the five-goal thriller, which incidentally edges the newly promoted side to a Europa League spot.

The win moves them four spots from 10th position and four points off the last automatic Europa League ticket.

Ade, who has made over 158 senior appearances in the Russian Leagues has never been capped by the senior national team.
