Rangers International of Enugu secured a flawless 4-1 victory over strugglers Sunshine Stars of Akure at Cathedral on Sunday.

 

The hosts went in front through Ifeanyi Nweke’s header with just four minutes on the clock.

 

The Flying Antelopes increased their lead midway through the first half when Israel Abia fired in from close range.

 

Godspower Aniefiok added the third in the 35th minutes before Christian Nnaji made it four shortly after the restart.

 

Sunshine Stars were handed an opportunity to get consolation from the penalty spot after a good combination from Ifegwu Ojukwu and Kolade Adeniji.

 

Kolade Adeniji stepped up and dispatched against his former side in the 51st minute to make it 4-1.

 

Sunshine Stars almost halved the deficit a few minutes later, bufUzoechi Ejike’s header went high from six yards, off Sunday Abe’s delivery.

 

At the other end, Uche Okafor stood firm to stop Rangers’ Nweke from grabbing a brace in the 70th minute.

 

Towards the end of the game, Kolade Adeniji missed the target with a close-range header from Abe’s free-kick, while Rangers goalkeeper denied Ayo Akinlose, and Ojukwu were denied in quick succession in the closing minutes of the tie.
