Rivers United and Akwa United begins CAF Champions League adventure with a win

Rivers United and Akwa United kick-started their 2021-2022 CAF Champions League campaign with a win over Young Africans FC of Tanzania and CR Belouizdad of Algeria respectively.

Rivers United, playing far away in Tanzania beat their hosts 1-0, while Akwa United recorded same scoreline against the Algerian Champions.


Samuel Omodumuke scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute to the Pride of Rivers good result at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.

Akwa United’s soletary goal was scored by Friday Ubong in the 87th minutes of the encounter.

The Promise Keepers will take a slender advantage to Algeria for the second leg next week.

Rivers United will also host Young Africans at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt next Sunday.
