Rohr blames Super Eagles struggles on injury to key players

Coach Gernot Rohr remains confident that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be ready for the  2022 African Cup of Nations.

 

Rohr’s sealed qualifications for the final phase of the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign after home draw against Cape Verde on Tuesday.

 

The three time African champions labored to a 1-1 draw against the Blue Sharks at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Tuesday.

 

With the African Cup of Nations is just two months away, Rohr stated that some of his players are struggling to find rhythm after injuries , but there’s reason to be optimistic as some ahead of the tournament.

 

“After this group stage, we can be optimistic. Now we have the time to prepare for the AFCON,” he said.

 

“Some of our players are coming back from injury – [Wilfred] Ndidi, [Samuel] Chukwueze. They were not really in the rhythm of the competition, so let’s give a little time to our players and the team will be better and better.”

 

Nigeria finished on top the Group with 13 points, while Cape Verde finished second with 11 points.

 

The 2022 African Cup of Nations will hold in Cameroon from January 9 to 6 February, while the World Cup play-offs will take place in March.
