Rohr rules Ekong and Collins out of second clash with Cameroon

Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr has confirmed the duo of William Troost-Ekong and Jamilu Collins will miss the second friendly against Cameroon.

The former Gabon and Niger boss stated that the defenders sustained an injury in the 1-0 defeat against the same opponents on Friday and not expecting them to be fit for the Tuesday game.

Ekong started in the defense along with Collins, but the Watford defender was replaced by Valentine Ozorwanfor in the 89th minutes of the encounter.

In his reaction after the game, Rohr said: “Unfortunately, we lost two other players to injury and it’ll be difficult for the second game in defense, because Ekong and Collins are out; they cannot play, so I think we’ll have to manage this difficult situation.

But it’ll be an opportunity, perhaps also to play with three defenders only, and to change the system a bit; to try something different, that’s why we are happy to have this second game.”

Speaking on the game generally, Rohr said he learned new things from the game and proud of his players’ effort.

“The result is not the most important thing in a friendly, the most important thing is to learn, to see some interesting things, to test some new players and then in the competition to be efficient and that’s what we want to do come September in the World Cup qualifiers. ” He concluded.
