Former Super Eagles defender, Samuel Sodje has called on Football lovers across the country to ensure they get behind coach of the Eagles, Gernot Rohr, and not to doubt his ability.
With both Ahmed Musa and Odion Ighalo both coming from the bench to change the tempo of the match against Burundi over the weekend, the latter getting Nigeria’s only goal of the game which proved to be the match winner, fans have been calling for both players to start today’s second group match against Guinea.
Speaking with www.brila.net, Sodje called on the fans not to keep telling the coach what he needs to do as the gaffer has his own system, and as such will employ the tactics he believes will work best against certain opponents.
“Fans have to understand, it doesn’t matter that they came in and changed the game. What we need to understand is that the coach has a pattern so he must have watched the opponent and applied whatever system he felt could work for the team”.
“If they started the game the last time, it would be the same thing. So let’s stick to the coach, if they have to start fine, if not, sue to his system of play, that’s fine”.
“Fans have a different view of the way we footballers or coaches see the game. It’s a different view. So if they start the game, it might be a different system but AI think is up to the coach. I strongly believe he will get it right as he did in the first match”.
