Nigeria’s Moses Simon was a surprise inclusion in Nantes match day squad for the UEFA Europa League clash with Olympiacos on Thursday.
The winger had been sidelined by muscle injury for the past two weeks but recovered in time to be part of the team for the visit of the Greek giants.
He started the game from the bench and with the game level at 1-1 coach, Antoine Kombouaré decided to introduce him to replace Ignatius Ganago in the 68th.
It proved to be the right decision as the French Cup holders grabbed the winning goal in dramatic fashion in the 82nd minute, through Evann Guessand.
Ludovic Blas had given Nantes the lead in the 30th, but the advantage was called by a second-half own goal from Nantes’ goalkeeper Alban Lafont.
The victory however leaves Nantes second in their group, behind Bundesliga side Freiburg.
