“Stupid” Deila Admits Boniface Mistake

Club Brugge coach, Ronny Deila, admitted he got to it wrong with passing on the chance to sign forward, Victor Boniface, when he had the chance.

Deila revealed he had turned down the forward during his time at Valerenga due to his early career troubles.

Boniface however has grown to become one of the hottest properties in the world of football at the moment.

The striker shone like a million stars at Bodo/Glimt before joining Union Saint-Gilloise from where he earned €18m move to Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen.

He has registered six goals and three assists in six appearances for Leverkusen, winning player of the month and rookie of the month award in the process.

“I made a mistake once, but that had nothing to do with work ethic. Boniface was on trial with me at Valerenga,” Deila told Neuwsblad.

“I already had a similar striker, so I didn’t really care about Boniface. He went to Bodo/Glimt afterwards. Stupid of me,” Deila said.

Boniface is now a full Nigerian international after making his debut against Sao Tome and Principe in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
