Super Falcons will beat Cameroon without Oshoala — Waldrum

Randy Waldrum believes the Super Falcons side will cope well without Superstar Asisat Oshoala, when they face Cameroon later today in a quarter-final fixture of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Oshoala was ruled out of the tournament following an injury she picked up during Nigeria’s opening group game of the tournament against South Africa.

The Forward returned to her club base in Barcelona where she’ll recuperate and is estimated to be out for six weeks.

Waldrum’s team did go on to win back to back games against Botswana and Burundi in the Star’s absence having lost 2-1 to South Africa earlier.

The American coach expects his team to continue to show improvements and the biggest will have to come against Cameroon, Thursday, the Falcons gaffer expressed.

“We did not have Asisat for our qualifiers [against Ghana and Ivory Coast] or in Canada for the friendlies. So it’s not like our team has had Asisat recently with us a lot,” Waldrum told BBC Africa.

“When you lose a star player it affects your team in some ways. The good thing about it is we have a lot of good attacking players.”

Winner of the encounter will be assured of places in the semi-final of the tournament and at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Australia and New Zealand.
