Team Nigeria can Set new Commonwealth Games Record – Deji Aliu

Nigeria contingent to the XXI Commonwealth Games can supplant the Country’s 2014 medal haul according to former African sprint Champion, Deji Aliu.

Aliu told Brila.net that the determination and sheer courage of Nigerian athletes can drive the contingent to excel in the Gold Coast.

Nigeria raked in 36 medals (Gold 11, Silver 11, Bronze 14) in Glasgow an improvement from the Team’s performance four years before in Delhi where they carted home 33 medals.

Aliu stated that he believes Nigerians can count on the caliber of athletes in Australia to deliver despite the level of preparation.

Meanwhile, Team Nigeria’s best outing at the Commonwealth Games was achieved 24 years ago in Canada where they finished fourth overall with 37 medals – finishing behind Australia, Canada and England respectively.
