Former Super Eagles goalkeeper and ex-international, Ike Shorunmu has revealed that the country’s present goalies are the best at the moment, and as such, much confidence should be given to them.
The trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezemwa, and Francis Uzoho all featured at the just concluded AFCON in Egypt, with Akpeyi getting the lion share of matches.
Speaking with brila.net, Shorunmu emphasized that it’s all about consistency, not having a bad game or having a good run of games in between the sticks, as all shot-stoppers are good for Nigeria.
“We have good goalkeepers, it now depends on the type of confidence we are giving those goalkeepers”.
“A goalkeeper who plays a single match where he didn’t play well doesn’t mean he is a bad goalie and again, you cannot say because a keeper has four good run of games, we conclude that he is the best we want”.
“It’s a game of continuity….playing every week. For sure there would be mistakes. With the ones we have, I believe they are the best in the country”.
