Golden Eaglets head coach Manu Garba has ascribed his team’s performance and result against Burkina Faso, in the opening group B match of the WAFU B U-17 Championship, to poor preparation.

Garba made these comments following their match against Burkina Faso, which ended in a goalless draw.

He argued that the team’s late preparation, cohesion and experience were lacking compared to the likes of Ghana and Burkina Faso, who had the opportunity to go on European tours.

“This is the first international match for these young lads. Teams like Ghana and Burkina Faso have gone out for European tours,” Garba said in his post-match press conference.

Garba, who was appointed head coach just last month, gave assurances that the team will improve in the upcoming games.

“This is our first international game and after the first, the team will get better and massively progress,” he stated.

The Golden Eaglets will play their second group game against Niger on Sunday.
