Francis Uzoho’s goalkeeper position at Omonia Nicosia is under serious threat as the club contemplates bringing in a new shot-stopper.
Uzoho had been enjoying playing time due to the injury to first-choice goalkeeper Fabian Ribeiro in recent weeks.
However, with Uzoho set to join Nigeria’s Super Eagles for the African Cup of Nations, potentially leading to a four-week absence, the club is actively exploring alternative options.
While no concrete goalkeeper transfer details have emerged, there are discussions about bringing Constantinos Panagis back to the squad.
Panagis, a Cypriot international keeper currently on loan at Ethnikos Achnas, has shown consistency in goalkeeping.
Additionally, Omonia is expressing interest in Michalis Papastylianou, currently with Peyia 2014. However, financial negotiations with the Paphos team have proven challenging.
As the club works towards securing a goalkeeper, and with Fabiano Ribeiro poised to return to competitive action, Uzoho’s standing at the club may further diminish in the goalkeeper pecking order.
Uzoho is one of the three Goalkeepers in Jose Peseiro’s African Cup of Nations roaster.
Others are: Ojo Olorunleke of Enyimba International of Aba and Chipa United’s star Stanley Nwanbili.
