Victor Osimhen finally found his way into the record book as he becomes the Nigerian with the most goal in the Italian top flight division.
Osimhen found the back of the net for Napoli against Atalanta at Bergamo this Saturday to take the record from Simy Nwankwo.
He headed home a short corner to register his 8th league goal of the season, and 32 overall since moving to Italy — one more than Simy (31).
Simy eclipsed former Inter Milan star Obafemi Martins as the highest scoring Nigerian in the Serie A in 2021.
Interestingly, Simy still holds the record for most goal tally (19 ) in a single season in any of the top five European leagues – La Liga, Bundesliga, EPL, Serie A, and Ligue 1.
The one capped Super Eagles forward also achieved the feat in 2021, overtaking Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s previous record of 17.
