Striker Victor Osimhen was on duty for Napoli against fellow title challengers AC Milan at the Diego Maradona Stadium on Sunday.
Osimhen was desperate to get a goal in the game, after being criticized by the media for his lack of goal for Napoli in big games.
He has faced Inter, Juventus, Roma, Lazio, and Inter Milan this season, but he’s failed to hit beat the goal in any of the games.
However, he was to unable rewrite his story as he failed to beat the AC Milan goalkeeper, despite attempting three shots inside 90 minutes.
He started the game with a fine run into the Milan box from the right, before being brought down by an ill-tackle in the 18-yard box by Fikayo Tomori, surprisingly the referee didn’t award a penalty to Napoli.
His first attempt came in the first minute when Fabien Ruiz played a through ball to him, but the Nigerian fired wide.
In the second half, he exchanged passes with Giovanni Di Lorenzo on the edge of the Milan box and could only fire straight to the waiting hands of Mike Maignan.
With ten minutes left to play and Napoli searching for an equalizer, Osimhen was freed by Lozano’s pass, but Maignan stood firm and save at the base of the near post.
Meanwhile, Milan left with all the points as Olivier Giroud redirected a wayward Davide Calabria effort to give Milan a huge victory in the Scudetto race, putting the Rossoneri clear at the top.
It was an opportunity lost for Napoli who now slipped to third behind Milan and Inter Milan.
