Manchester United icon, Wayne Rooney emphasized the need for Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi to enhance his goal-scoring efficiency.

Despite scoring twice for Nottingham Forest in his return from injury last month, Awoniyi faced criticism for a goalless performance against Liverpool, which was attributed to Nottingham Forest’s defeat.

Rooney remains optimistic, asserting that the talented striker has the potential to pose a greater goal threat on the field.

“As a forward, if you put yourself in the middle of the goal, you will get chances,” he told Nottingham Post.

“He needs to take a little bit more care and perhaps make the extra pass, but he will get better opportunities.

“He has to be ready when those chances come. If he progresses to a bigger club, he will have to be taking those chances.”

Awoniyi has six goals and three assists in sixteen league matches for Nottingham Forest this season.
