Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong, has revealed how serious he takes his spiritual life alongside football, saying he engages in a weekly bible study with some other footballers.
Ekong said the players gather to share their spiritual experiences, to inspire other players in the group.
The Torino of Italy centre-back stated that the players exalt each other on different scriptural themes whenever they meet.
“When we gather, we talk about our experiences and try to share in that sense and try to get more disciples. So the group is expanding and hopefully, you know as football is expanding, it is a big audience, so it is such a big platform,”he told Brilafm.
“It is just to inspire other people, preaching, spread the word and that is what the group is all about.
“We try to keep a theme every week or every month we have a different theme, speak about the Holy Ghost. For example, the last one we had, we talked about how it is in your life and the relationship you have with him.
“How it can help you during the day and all those kind of stuff. So when you are in a group of special players, like me, when I’m a captain of my team, me I’m a leader, I try to inspire other people around me. People are always eager to hear the word of God, that is what it is about really.
Ekong helped Nigeria finish third in the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he also won the man-of-the-match award twice.
