Nigerian attacker David Okereke scored for Venezia in the local derby against Hellas Verona on Sunday.
However Okereke’s goal wasn’t enough to earn Venezia a point as Hellas Verona ran out 3-1 winner in the Italian Serie A game.
Verona drew first blood through Giovanni Simone who robbed Caldara down the left flank and curled into the far bottom corner with the inside of his right boot.
Simeone added his second in the 63rd minute when his shot deflected off Gianluca Busio after a great run and slide-rule pass from Faraoni.
Venezia set up a tense finale when Okereke’s 81st minute header from a Dennis Johnsen cross, beat Hellas goalkeeper. It was Okereke’s sixth goal of the season for Venezia in 21 appearances.
However, Simeone killed off the tie when he completed his hat-trick by firing in at the near post.
