Union Berlin boss Fischer Urs highlights importance of Taiwo Awoniyi

Union Berlin manager Fischer Urs says he is satisfied with Super Eagles Taiwo Awoniyi’s contributions to the team this season.

Awoniyi has been in scintillating form for Union Berlin since joining the Club from English side Liverpool last summer.

The Nigerian striker has contributed 12 goals in 19 appearances, with 7 of them coming in the Bundesliga, and Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland has scored more than him in the competition.

Speaking after the 2-5 defeat to the Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich on Saturday, Fischer Urs highlighted the importance of the player to their impressive campaign.

“Awoniyi is always working hard to improve on his skills, and also find ways to score more goals during the week.”

“I think strikers are important because they have to score goals. A lot of things are coming together at the moment for the club and that feels good.” Fischer said.

Meanwhile, Awoniyi failed to find the target as Union Berlin lost 2-5 to the Bavarians on Saturday.

It was their first defeat at home after 29 matches in all competitions.
