Nigerian female wrestler and Gold medalist at the just concluded African wrestling championship in Morocco Odunayo Adekuoroye has stated that the 2017 wrestling tourney in Marrakesh is one of Nigeria’s best after all the 8 female wrestlers made it to the final winning 6 gold and 2 silver medals at the end of the championship.
Adekuoroye in a chat with www.brila.net said the performance is an indication of the quality of wrestlers in Nigeria and that Nigeria is strong enough to compete any any level with any one in the world.
She added that the highly ranked world wrestlers enjoy positions by virtue of attending more competitions which brings them into the ranking map easily.
“I believe it’s the best year since I have been in wrestling, all I ever want to achieve is to make Nigeria proud. There are a lot of us in Nigeria that we are world standard and I believe we can do it, but that due to inability to attend as many as possible championship, we don’t enjoy as much rating like other top wrestlers in Europe or the America.”
