Adekuoroye, Oborududu Shine In Women’s Wrestling in Turkey

Commonwealth wrestling champions Odunayo Adekuoroye and Blessing Oborududu both picked up gold and bronze medals respectively at the Yasar Dogu Ranking Series event in Turkey and climb up in the world rankings.
Adekuoroye defeated Brazil’s Giulia Rodrigues 15-2 in the round of 16 and won Ecuador’s Lissette Castillo 10-0 to earn her a semi-final spot against Olga Khoroshavtseva of Russia. In a tightly contested battle, Adekuoroye came out victorious as she won her counterpart by a 6-3 margin.
She faced Ukraine’s Tetyana Kit in the final where she won 10-0 via technicality and earned a gold medal in the 57kg Women Wrestling category.
Oborududu, on the other hand, began her campaign with a 12-3 win over Germany’s Nadine Weinauge in the qualification round before an impressive 6-0 win over home favourite Kadriye Aksoy. She, however, lost out 8-1 to Canada’s Danielle Lappage in the semifinal.
Their impressive performance in Istanbul comes just after another ranking series tournament earlier this year and have seen praises heaped on them by the head coach of the female national team, Purity Akuh.
“I am so happy with their performance, they wrestled against world-class wrestlers and showcased mental toughness. The recently concluded 3rd Governor Dickson Wrestling Classics really helped and I am so proud of them.”
