Ajako promises better Akwa United against Nasarawa United

Akwa United left-back, James Ajako says the game against Nasarawa United is important for their season and they can’t afford to drop more points.

The 2021 league champions are still without a win after two weeks of domestic league football, losing at home to Bendel Insurance and picking a point away at Enyimba.

The team heads to Jos this Sunday, where they’ll face Nasarawa United, who are also winless, and Ajako insists the team is determined to get a win.

“It will be a tough one for both teams, considering their recent results, but we are confident that we have what it takes to get a positive result from the match.

“After reflecting on the results of our last two games, we as players have resolved to be more committed, play our hearts out to ensure we turn things around which will help us to achieve our aim of making it to the playoffs.”

Akwa United still waiting for their first goal of the season after goalless results in opening games.

“It’s unbelievable that we are yet to score goal(s) after two matches. The coaching crew has been taking us on scoring drills and our team is such that any player can score at any time.

“In midweek, I came close to scoring against Enyimba in Aba, but my shot crashed against the crossbar and I know that it is just a temporary setback.

“I’m optimistic that we will utilize our chances come Sunday and we will celebrate our goals.”

Akwa United have only one point from a possible six, while on the other hand, Nasarawa United are bottom of the table without a point after losing their first two matches of the season.
