Akwa United Boss Maikaba to Unleash New Players on MFM FC

Four of Akwa United’s five new players who were unveiled on Wednesday travelled with the squad on Friday to Lagos where the Promise Keepers face MFM FC in a matchday 20 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League this weekend.

There are strong indications Coach Abdu Maikaba may be throw his mid-season signings into the fray to justify their inclusion in the team.

The Akwa United gaffer named a strong squad of 18 players for the return leg encounter with MFM at the Agege stadium in Lagos.

The four newly signed players selected are; goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke, midfielder Christopher Lolo and two strikers Gabriel Okechukwu and Harmony Ikande.

The coach said no stone will be left upturned when his team file out against their opponents on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Captain Otobong Effiong and winger Moses Ebiye who recently returned to full fitness were also included in the matchday squad.

Sunday’s game will be the fourth meeting between the teams; since MFM gained promotion to the top flight last season.

The fixture between the sides have never ended in a draw, and with the Promise Keepers having the better head to head, Maikaba will fancy his team’s chances of getting a positive result against their host having won their last three matches.

The match at the Agege stadium will see two top scorers in the league Stephen Odey and Alhassan Ibrahim face each other in what will ignite the battle for the Rashidi Yekini shoe at the end of the season.

MFM were on a purple patch in the first half of the league season; holding firm to second position and they will hope that flame keeps burning.
