Aribo satisfied with substitute role at Southampton

Super Eagles attacking midfielder Joe Aribo says he has no problems playing as a substitute and only focusing on helping his team.

Aribo started Southampton’s first Premier League of the season, against Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium two weeks ago.

The versatile midfielder however came from the bench in the second half to score his first Premier League goal as the Saints draw 2-2 with Leeds United.

Aribo told Daily Record that Hassenhuttl had asked and informed him, that he won’t be starting the game against Leeds United.

The Super Eagles midfielder further stated that he is fine with the decision of the coach as long as he can contribute to the success of the team.

“I spoke to the manager the day before the match and he just said ‘be ready for me for when I need to come on and impact the game.

“Things like that happen. That’s what I do, every time I play I want to leave my impact on the pitch, and luckily I was able to do that.”

“The manager said he was going to take me out and give me some time. I’m here to do the job so no matter if I’m starting on the bench or starting in the team I’m ready to make my impact on the team,” Aribo explained.
