Super Eagles invitee and Crotone striker, Simeon Nwankwo has described his debut call up to the national team and for the World Cup as a “dream”.

“Simy”, who has been on a purple patch with his Serie A side of late, was named in Nigeria’s 30-man preliminary list for the 2018 FIFA World Cup an opportunity he said he’s happy came his way.

‘ The world cup is a dream for every player and I’m no exception. I’m living my dream and I’m happy that I have been given the opportunity to show what I can do.’
Nigeria’s world cup camp opens on 22 May with an international friendly match against DR Congo lined up six days later.

The match will offer Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr the opportunity to see the player in action first hand, and Simi says he’s ready to give his best.

‘Like every other player coming to the camp, I want to give my best and try then we see what happens.’
The 26-year-old forward joined Crotone in the 2016-17 season and has bettered his stats from last team in appearance and goals.

So far, he has scored 7 goals in 22 appearances, something he attributes to growth and a better understanding of Italian football.

‘When the opportunity came I had to take it with both hands. I am better settled now; I understand Italian football better now, the language and all. I am getting better, I am glad and I am hopeful for the future,’ the player told Brila.net .
